“Gee, that’s tough!” commented Bob, happy that Mr. Whitney had enough confidence to tell him all these things. “But about the Mexicans; you don’t suspect anyone around the job is the trouble maker, do you?” “My dear John! There is a wonderful valley out there ready to spring into life if we only could get water to it.” “Yes, but Father said I was to be kind to Bob, and careful of him—and I haven’t been,” sobbed Johnny. “And besides, I am the heir of Kingthorpe, you know, Mother.” “I’m not worried about that,” Bob said confidently. “I think I’ll like that too.” Once Jerry had started his tale, it flowed on without interruption.
