When the meat was cooked he pulled the kettle from the fire and ate the body, limb by limb, until it was all eaten. The ready tears spring into Mona's eyes. She is more deeply, passionately grateful to him for this small speech than he will ever know. "Then the people who send them should be ashamed! But what about the other half of their time that they spend from home?"
