The captivating music of Grieg’s “Butterfly” floated through the room and Moses watched the white supple fingers of the player with breathless eagerness. “You’re George Rideout Smith’s kid, ain’t you?” Rational people laughed at these stories, declared them the fancies of brains fuddled by too long a stay at the saloons in town. The coolness of her fortitude forsook her as she approached the Abate's apartment, and she became less certain as to the occasion of this summons.
